Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

is the patron saint of ecology, the environment and Native Americans. Kateri Tekakwitha had a Christian Algonquin mother and Mohawk chief father who died of small pox when she was four. She herself was disfigured and became half blind from the small pox. Kateri Tekakwitha is known for her devout faith and heroic virtue, and love of God and people, in the face of adversity and rejection, as well as her close connection with the natural world around her. Her feast day is July 14th.
