Three-Bar Design: The top bar represents the titulus (sign) placed above Christ’s head, the middle is the main crossbar for his arms, and the slanted bottom bar is the footrest (suppedaneum)
Top Icon: Depicts the Holy Face (Mandylion), also know as the “Image Not-made-by-hands,” flanked by two Angels of God.
Central Figure: Shows the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Above his arms, the inscription often reads “King of Glory” or “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
Bottom Symbols: Below Christ’s feet is a skull in a cave, representing the skull of Adam. This symbolizes that Christ’s sacrifice redeemed humanity starting from the first man.
