Who do You say that I am -Elizabeth Johnson CSJ with Susan Rakoczy IHM
92pages – paperback
15 x 21cm
Elizabeth Johnson is fast becoming recognized as a leading representative of the second generation of feminist theologians in the USA. She is the author of the widely acclaimed
She Who Is
which was the winner of the 1993 Louisville Grawemeyer Award in Religion and co-winner of the 1992 Crossroad Women’s Studies Award.
Who Do You Say That I Am?
was originally presented as a series of lectures for the 1987 Catholic Theological Winter School. Johnson’s discussion of christology shows how it is far healthier for the followers of Jesus to be discussing who Jesus is, how he challenged the conventions of his time, and whether the salvation he brought is open to all, than to be content with a picture of him that provokes little interest and hence no questions. Besides drawing us into the vexing question of where we find God in both Jesus’ and our own sufferings, she brings out how both feminist and liberation theology are enriched by a truer grasp of Jesus’ own life and activities.
An additional essay by Susan Rakoczy IHM on African Christology discusses the main emphases in this new area of speech about Jesus Christ.
